EXPLORING EARTH SCIENCE AND THE SCIENCE OF GEOLOGY AND PALEONTOLOGY The earth has been around for 4.6 billion years and the universe some what longer 13.6 billion years or so. For the student who is interested in earth science and the geologic processes both on earth and on other planets there is a long list to choose from. Global warming in a very popular subject at the present time, many facts relating to the global warming may be found on the internet and in many magazines like national geographic etc. this could be a very interesting science fair project for students. Another science fair project such as plate tectonics (the movement of the earths crust) through time. You could make a 3-d model of the earth and show how the plates move about the earth like great ocean liners. Another good science fair project is the were the oil fields are found . You could tell how and why the oil formed, how much the world has left in reserve and what kinds of energy might drive the society of the future. Science fair projects about earthquakes and seismographs have always proved interesting. The subject of volcanoes in a science fair project is always a winner. If you like to collect rocks or minerals you could turn this information in to a very interesting science fair project. Collecting fossils always makes for a great science fair project. The study of how and why different gems are formed may put a little sparkle in a science fair project. The study and interpretation of geologic maps may be useful and interesting to the public as well. Some students may want to focus on dinosaurs, while others may find the earths oceans an interesting subject. Some may focus on interplanetary geology. The study of how life formed on the young earth may be considered a good science fair project. The mining industry relies heavily on the science of geology to help it find the natural resources we all use today. One might show how and when geology became a science. A good science fair project would show how a glacier is formed and how it scourers the earths surface as it moves down the canyon or across the landscape. There are many sites on the internet and many books available to read about the subject of geology. I invite you to learn as much as possible about our amazing planet and its place in the universe. Remember it is your generation who will be the ones to explore it. |
